Language Coaching: Options

The most cost-effective and efficient option combines a two-hour small group class with one hour of individual coaching bi-weekly. We suggest committing to three 12 week sessions.

This option combines the energy and support of a group with focused individual attention to provide a very effective and motivating learning environment. The group classes are small enough that people can be placed in a group that will suit their needs. Clients can benefit from a group environment in a few ways: they can learn from each other, they can practice with each other, and they can support each other outside of class. Having the one-on-one component makes it possible to really hone in on the particular problem of the individual.

Clients really appreciate the one-on-one time- they see the focused attention they get as very valuable in their learning. Sometimes there is an underlying challenge in learning the language that people might not feel comfortable talking about in a group. Being able to explore these issues enables clients to move on and be successful with their learning. The individual coaching also allows clients to explore and improve larger communication issues that aren’t specifically ESL issues, such as the ability to say no, or the ability to effectively work with colleagues or direct reports. The coaching also focuses on how clients can best learn and continue learning. As such, it is a good investment because it leads to the client becoming more self-sufficient and self-directed in his or her language and communication learning.

Please note that sometimes the small group option is sometimes not advisable if the language challenges of the participants are too divergent. It’s important that the time the clients spend in language coaching be as valuable as possible. In some cases, managers are not open to taking a class with a direct report. In these two cases, individual coaching would be a better option.

Testimonials

What a highly inspiring course, packed with lots of new ideas, approaches and quality business English materials. I really found the combination of ESL classes and one-on-one language coaching very helpful. Now I am extremely motivated and know new ways to continue learning.

A. Liu, Accountant

I found the program extremely helpful. ESL coach Jennifer used creative techniques in our small group class to help us improve our communication skills. One-on-one coach Andrea identified my mistakes and provided a tailor-made study plan. Thanks.
